My art is an extension of myself, and each subsequent painting is a reflection of my current life experiences. I mean not just the subject matter itself, but rather the palette of colors that captures the spirit.
Gray background with splashes of white and black paint
I believe my works can be recognizable thanks to several characteristic aspects. Undoubtedly one of them is a gray background with splashes of white and black paint. Many colorful animals have been created on such backgrounds in recent years, and they look amazing in monochromatic surroundings. Geometric portraits of people are also created on the same background. I especially focus on female portraits because I think this style lends itself well to capturing the essence of beauty. My technique is evolving, but it is one of the things I often come back to, and I know I'll never stop.
Combination of ancient marble sculptures painted to resonate with the contemporary world
Another and newest hallmark is the combination of ancient marble sculptures painted to resonate with the contemporary world, with elements of graffiti and very crazy, colorful backgrounds. Wide thematic diversity allows me the expression of creativity on multiple levels which sets me apart from artists who adhere to more specific and limited creative directions. It provides me the freedom to navigate the expansive landscape of artistic possibilities.
Non-toxic painting
As a result of health challenges, I have been using unusual techniques and media in my art for some time. My choice of non-toxic painting mediums is one of the examples. Beyond being a mindful choice for my well-being, I perceive it as an opportunity to add an additional creative layer to my work.
Where does your inspiration come from?
I have many sources of inspiration and new ones appear all the time. In recent times, classical art has emerged as a dominant topic, drawing from the elegance of ancient marble sculptures and the richness of mythology, but also I find myself influenced by the vibrant energy of Pop Art. To create works that reflect contemporary trends and values, I combine these classical foundations with elements inspired by Pop Culture, the dynamism of graffiti art, and elements of luxury brands in the form of gold or silver accessories.
Monika Mrowiec (born in 1991) is a Polish artist with a background in both classical and modern art. Her studies at Opole University, where she focused on visual arts, graphic design, and new media, along with her postgraduate work in architecture and interior design, shape her distinctive, multifaceted approach to painting. Her work often merges classical motifs, particularly from ancient mythology, with the vibrant, expressive elements of pop art. This unique style highlights her focus on contrasting classical figures with contemporary elements, such as the textures and patterns inspired by luxury fashion brands, giving her pieces a modern edge. Her recent collections include dynamic pieces inspired by fashion and the iconography of pop culture, blending monochromatic portraits with striking, colorful backdrops and textures that bring her subjects to life in bold, engaging ways.
